Renewed fighting near gorillas: Right Now

Published by admin at 1:08 pm under Threats

Fighting is going on at Bikenge between the army and the rebels. It has been going on all day.

I can also report that the Rangers who fled the sector yesterday are still at Rumangabo. The information they had collected regarding the gorillas that they had been tracking was taken from them by the rebels. This would have been useful to us for our records which we keep diligently.

The Rangers who fled the Gorilla Sector yesterday, now safely at Rumangabo. Diddy took this photo today.

Thank you for all your encouragement and support. Please lobby. I do not know much about lobbying outside of my country and how you put pressure, but anything you can do to help us get back into the park and protect the animals will be much appreciated. Thank you to you all.

I’m going to send more messages to my Congressional leaders, and to the all the Democratic presidential candidates. I just spent a few hours at the Autumn Conservation Festival at the Smithsonian’s Conservation & Research Center and feeling all good about wildlife conservation … now this news. Horrible.

    Stay safe, everyone in Rumangabo.

Brigitta, you’re translating this blog every day in German? That’s great!

BTW, I sent messages to my Congressional reps and all the Dem presidential candidates. (Someone else can contact the Republicans, please.)

Talking about me sheryl……lol….I hope there is a another one of me around that knows how to do that better.

Haha! I wasn’t pointing fingers, but if you wanna give it a shot, Wikipedia has a list of all of them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Republican_presidential_candidates,_2008

Just SearchKindly for their campaign Web sites, find the contact info, send a message telling them what’s going on and that we want our government to take action to try and stop the fighting. If they’re in Congress, don’t use their Congressional site to contact them because it’s restricted to residents of their home states. I sent the same copy-and-paste message to all of the Dem nominees. Easy stuff!

So disappointed to hear this news. All of your hard work is gone. It’s just awful. I will contact some media outlets and also all of my Congressional leaders, as well as, my local representatives. I will also contact the Democratic Presidential Nominees, as well as, Condi Rice and the President and Vice President. I’ll just keep writing and rewriting until something is done. Thinking of you all as you go through this horrible ordeal. My thoughts are also, always with the Gorillas. I hope they are safe. Lisa, California

I will try too here in GA but you know here in the US the press mentality can’t go past Britney Spears - it’s sad, really sad that they can continue to let important stuff go un-noticed and have us trapped into listening this crap on our news constantly!!!!!!

I will try too. I just finished my painting of Mufabure and am posting it on the Art Helping Mountain Gorillas blog once a week until the rangers are able to go back in the park to protect the gorillas. Please anyone who has information on ways to bring this to the forefront please post a comment. I’ll probably have it up later tonight. I’m also trying to compose a form letter that people can use to send to their congress people and senators. I’ll have it posted on our blog most likely tomorrow. I know from previous experience that hand written mailed letters are read more than emailed. I tend to do both.

I will contact the republican candidates (again). One of my goals is to find those truly compassionate conservatives out there…we really do exist…I promise…I need to find the holes we are all hiding in though…

As always, my thoughts and prayers are will all of or amazing rangers…hopefully there will be some positive developments soon.

p.s. Robin…I posted some sample letters a few blogs back…some for presidential candidates, some for Congress, and one for press…let me see if I can find them.

Haven’t had a chance to check this blog in a few day, busy with a real sick little dog. Golly, this is horrible news. I was hopeing things had improved. I agree with you fully,Wanda, and Britney Spears. Who cares. I still feel the mountain
gorillas need a icon to put them into
    main stream media.
Just hope and pray someone in the government starts taking notice of what is happening.
Rangers, stay safe. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

I agree, I could give a rat’s ass about Britney Spears and her shallow self inflicted problems, but it’s up to us to inform the media that we are sick of hearing about it and want to hear about more important issues, like what’s happening to the Mountain Gorilla and the Rangers that so unselfeshly watch over them.
