Support Our Wildlife Warriors Kids HQ

In January, we officially moved into our Wildlife Warriors Field lab, a 30-acre piece of wilderness south of Nairobi Park. This land was generously given to WildlifeDirect for educational purposes.  This is where we are setting up a field camp for children to give them a chance to experience nature first hand, learn outdoorsmanship, science, photography, film and other digital communications, culture, traditional knowledge (like medicinal plants), habitat restoration, climate adaptation, eco-construction, waste and water management, alternative energy sources (solar, wind and biogas) and conservation education.

Our camp is quite small with limited accommodation and facilities to cater for a small staff and to ensure a small footprint. We are managing on low water volumes, solar power and Biosan toilets as part of our demonstration of Eco-living. Though it is still early days and only two staff are at the site, neighbours are already expressing huge interests from local universities to schools and landowners who want to know how we are building and how our Biosan toilets work. For now, our work is to conduct a full biodiversity assessment, map the area and develop educational activities before we begin to receive students.

In time, we will be inviting school children to watch wildlife documentaries, use the nature library, and join us for citizen science events. We are grateful for the support from the Wild Lives Foundation which has allowed us to create this truly unique experience for kids. We are also grateful to the Dobie Family for donating the 30-acres of pristine wilderness to WildlifeDirect.
