Highlights of a Remarkable Year!
2025 has been an amazingly productive year for WildlifeDirect. We piloted Africa’s first Biomimicry Challenge for the youth and saw magic before our eyes! We also concluded a pilot project with Wallobooks of India, an innovative book-writing project designed to amplify values into conservation education through storytelling.
Our education base is the Wildlife Warriors Kids’ Field Lab, 30 acres of park adjacent wilderness managed by a dedicated team of young experts. This month, we concluded phase 1 of our build and welcomed over 40 children for a daily dose of nature immersion. These kids joined (and even led) university students conducting the Great Southern Bioblitz, a 3-day excursion of mapping and identifying species in the wild.
Meanwhile, hundreds of kilometres away, teachers rolled out club activities including the Kifaru (rhino) and Snake Challenges, focusing on the ecology and threats facing these less-loved species.
Our reach extends beyond schools and into homes through the WildlifeDirect Warriors series on Akili TV network, reaching 2-3 million people weekly. To ensure that we don’t run out of content, we are supporting film productions, and three of the six 15-minute Justice for Nature films have been nominated for awards! What a joy for young Kenyan filmmakers!!
Our presence and impact reach far beyond Kenya as we attended the Jackson Wild Film Festival and participated in the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi.
2025 has had its share of challenges with threats to the integrity of Nairobi National Park, while indigenous forests remain susceptible to encroachment, degradation, and unregulated planning. Development of new tourism facilities in the iconic Maasai Mara is threatening the wildebeest migration, and climate change is taking a toll on wildlife, habitats, and vulnerable communities. All of this confirms the vital role of WildlifeDirect and like-minded organizations in promoting conservation and connecting people to their natural world.
