On June 5th, World Environment Day, WildlifeDirect launched the Wildlife Warriors Kids ‘Restoring Nature Challenge’ in partnership with Mpala Research Centre. Two schools won seed funding of Ksh 100,000 ($1,000), two won Ksh 75,000 ($750), and four won Ksh 50,000 ($500).

Migratory corridors promote ecological connectivity, allowing wildlife to migrate between different habitats and ranges in response to seasonal changes in food and water.

WildlifeDirect is thrilled to announce a partnership with Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), the national broadcaster, to air Season One of the Wildlife Warriors TV Series. This partnership will allow viewers from all corners of the country to have access to the show that provides an African perspective on conservation through the stories of Africa’s own conservation heroes, front line soldiers, and cutting edge scientists.

WildlifeDirect is excited to announce that Dr. Paula Kahumbu has been recognized as the Rolex National Geographic Explorer of the Year for 2021. This prestigious award recognizes the cutting edge work that Dr. Kahumbu has been pioneering for more than a decade at WildlifeDirect. The award was announced today at the National Geographic Explorers Festival, an invite-only event hosted by the National Geographic Society, held on June 15th – 17th, 2021.

WildlifeDirect is marking this year’s World Environment Day by launching the Wildlife Warriors Kids Restoring Nature Challenge in partnership with Mpala Research Centre. The Challenge is targeting public and community primary schools in Kenya. Every year on June 5th the world celebrates World Environment Day; a United Nations day set aside to create awareness and take actions that protect the environment.

Welcome to our May edition of Wildlife Tracks. In this edition, we share with you exciting news about Dr. Paula Kahumbu winning the prestigious Whitley Gold Award which will elevate the important work that we are doing at WildlifeDirect to save Africa’s wildlife and wild places. We also give you highlights from the first Wildlife Warriors Teachers Convention that brought together 17 teachers from different schools in Kenya to Kajiado County.

In May, WildlifeDirect launched the first Wildlife Warriors Kids Clubs Teachers Convention for 17 teachers at the Chyulu Wilderness Camp in Kajiado County. The goal of the Teachers Convention was to consolidate the lessons learned from experiences with the existing network of the Wildlife Warrior Kids clubs and lay the groundwork for the expansion of the network in consecutive years.

It was great news for the Amboseli Elephants on March 23rd, 2021 when a ruling at the National Environmental Tribunal ordered all activity to stop at the avocado farm.
