KWS arrests three people found in possession of a live pangolin

Three people have been arrested and charged with being in possession of a live pangolin. The three Kenyans, all male, were arrested by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers on 2nd September 2020 in Likoni area and charged on 3rd September 2020, at the Chief Magistrates Court in Mombasa.

Fire fighters worked tirelessly during the last two days to contain bush fires that erupted on 8th August at Tsavo West National Park. In a statement to the press, the Kenya Wildlife Service has stated that it suspects that arsonists lit the fires and that police are tracking them down.

A Nakuru Law Court has ruled against WildlifeDirect’s application filed in court for an injunction as well as a petition against the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Naivasha Love Festival over the Koroga Festival which is planned on February 14 - 15 at Hells Gate National Park.

It was, therefore, a real shock and surprise to hear that in one of Kenya’s jewels of its protected areas which is under direct KWS protection, Hell’s Gate National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty and a key breeding site for globally Critically Endangered species, that an event of extremely high disturbance and impact, the Koroga Music Festival, was being organised and supported by KWS!

WildlifeDirect has filed an application in court for an injunction as well as a petition against the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Naivasha Love Festival over the Koroga Festival which is planned on 14 - 15 February at Hells Gate National Park. The hearing for the application is on Monday 10 February.

Tim, the Super Tusker elephant in Amboseli has died. Our hearts are broken. Tim was one of Africa's very few Super Tuskers and an incredible elephant whose presence awed and inspired many. He was one of Kenya's National Treasures!

The Koroga Love Festival, on 14–15 February, and the East African leg of the World Rally Championship, programmed for July, will attract thousands of people to the Park for activities that are unconnected with wildlife conservation.

It is with a heavy heart that we learnt about the death of Teresai, a spectacular and famous bull elephant in Samburu.  Teresai, aged 41 was found dead on September 18 after falling into an abandoned septic tank at the ruins of the former Serena Safari Lodge located on the edge of Buffalo Springs National Reserve.
